We are seeking interest from those individuals who enjoy working outside, are practical and looking to make a difference to the general cleanliness of our streets, parks and public spaces in Swansea for local residents and visitors. Training will be provided commensurate to the role on appointment. The role is "hands-on", and the post holders will be expected to cover all cleansing activities and duties which include, but are not limited to:

  • General maintenance and cleansing of the public realm (adopted roads, paths, beaches and other Council-owned land).
  • Litter picking, bin emptying and installation, manual sweeping.
  • Removal of fly-tipping and searching waste for evidence.
  • Land clearance and local area enhancement.
  • Removal of vegetation, weeds, leaves, dog fouling, dirt and detritus.
  • Removal of graffiti and fly posting.
  • Cleansing of public toilets.
  • Driving vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
  • Use of handheld and powered tools/equipment such as blowers and jetwash equipment.
  • Participation in voluntary weekend and bank holiday overtime working.
  • Occasionally tasks may include snow clearance, gritting the highway and routine maintenance tasks as required.

£25,583 - £25,989 per year. The Parks and Cleansing Service is seeking to appoint x4 full-time Leading Cleansing Operatives. These frontline roles are essential to enabling the Council to meet its statutory obligations under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse (COPLAR) 2007, ensuring that Council-owned land is kept clean and free from litter and refuse, as far as is practicable.
