Swansea Council for Voluntary Service

Cyfoeth Y Coed (“The Riches of the Trees” in Welsh) is a small community interest company. They harvest unwanted produce, mainly apples, for local food sharing groups.

Director (Voluntary position)

Salary: unpaid

Hours: Up to 10 hours a month initially

Location: Swansea

Cyfoeth Y Coed incorporated as a CIC (community interest company) in mid 2024 and are now seeking new directors with time, energy, initiative and creativity to shape and oversee the company’s future.

Over the past five years Cyfoeth Y Coed have picked almost nine tonnes of fruit, donated to Matt’s Café, Swansea Community Fridge, and numerous food banks/pantries. They have also collaborated with Coeden Fach Community Tree Nursery to run juice workshops for local children. They have a wonderful group of volunteers who come back year after year to pick apples and prune trees.

About the role

Tasks include developing strategic and business plans, ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities, and supporting the Project Manager. The time commitment is variable and is front loaded to address outstanding remedial work. At the start it will be up to 10 hours a month, dropping to 2-3 hours in a few months once these tasks have been accomplished.

About you

We are keen to increase our diversity and representation of the community: Welsh speakers and applicants from under-represented and minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Small business experience and/or prior board experience is a plus but not necessary. Similarly, experience in any of the following would also be helpful but are not required: emergency food provision, the third sector, and growing food.

Get in on the ground and use your initiative, creativity and drive to shape Cyfoeth Y Coed\’s future and realise the enormous potential of Swansea’s hidden harvest!

Closing date: January 31st 2026
