Swansea is ambitious about tackling poverty. This is an opportunity to take on a high impact leadership role at the heart of that ambition — shaping how the Council and its partners respond to poverty, inequality and the cost-of-living challenges facing our communities. We are seeking an exceptional leader to drive our Tackling Poverty and Enabling Communities Wellbeing Objective, bringing strategic vision, strong partnership leadership and a deep commitment to community voice and co-production.

This is not a passive role. It requires pace, influence and purpose — and the confidence to lead complex programmes in a politically aware environment. As Tackling Poverty Team Leader, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Council's tackling poverty, welfare rights and financial inclusion agenda. You will operate at a senior level, influencing policy, shaping investment and leading multi-agency responses to poverty.

We’re looking for an experienced leader with:

  • Significant experience leading tackling poverty, welfare or community-based programmes.
  • A strong track record of partnership working programme delivery and people leadership.
  • Excellent judgement, resilience and the ability to deliver under pressure.
  • A clear commitment to equality, safeguarding and improving outcomes for residents.

This role requires excellent leadership, sound professional judgement and a relentless focus on outcomes. It will suit someone who is motivated by impact, not profile - and who is ready to lead from the front.

You’ll be joining an organisation that is serious about work that genuinely changes lives with the scale and ambition to turn ideas into action. You will have the opportunity to shape a city-wide approach to tackling poverty - and to see the results of your leadership on the ground.

For further information, please contact Jane Whitmore, Chief Officer.
