A little about myself:

I am a 13-year-old boy with severe autism who is non-verbal and has significant care and support needs. I am very active and enjoy being on the move. I love trampolining, running, spending time outdoors, playing in the garden, visiting parks, swimming, and taking part in all kinds of water play. Being active and having opportunities to explore my environment helps me feel happy, engaged, and regulated. I am a very social young person and enjoy being around other children, although I often prefer to play alongside them rather than directly with them. I am also quite independent and like to explore and engage in activities in my own way. I can be highly motivated by food, which can sometimes help encourage me to participate in activities or routines that I may otherwise be reluctant to do. I have a diagnosis of PICA, which means I may put non-food items in my mouth and attempt to eat things that are unsafe. Due to this, I always require close supervision. I have a limited awareness of danger and can be at risk of wandering away if not closely supervised. When I am distressed, overwhelmed, or frustrated, I may display self-injurious behaviours. As I am unable to verbally communicate my needs, concerns, or risks, I rely on the adults around me to understand me, keep me safe, and always support my wellbeing.
