Locum Medical Oncology Consultant in Lung and Sarcoma in Wales

Swansea University Health Board is seeking to appoint to a 10 session Medical Oncologist post in lung and sarcoma, who has a commitment to high quality patient care, high level research, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets and excellence in education/training. The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of SACT for the above tumour site as well as expanding a trials portfolio in these cancers for the patients of the South West Wales Cancer Centre. The postholder will be joining a friendly and forward-thinking consultant team of clinical and medical oncologists who are committed to delivering highest standards of cancer care, alongside a large team of other clinical and non-clinical professionals.

Main duties of the job:

• This post is for a Medical Oncologist with a sub specialist interest in lung cancer and sarcoma.
• This is a 10-session post and working hours are flexible to accommodate candidates who may have caring duties.
• There are opportunities to develop off site working as needed to allow remote chemotherapy prescribing.
• The postholder will join a team of 3 other clinical oncologists working across South West Wales.
• The postholder will deliver SACT for lung cancer. New patients will be seen in Singleton Hospital.
• Clinics are supported by a CNS and plans to have a non-medical prescriber pharmacist working within the team.
• The postholder will provide mutual cross cover for the other lung oncologists.
• The Swansea lung cancer MDT is held on Monday morning.
• The postholder will join a clinical oncologist working across South West Wales and deliver SACT for Sarcoma for the South West Wales population.
• The team is supported by a CNS.
• The South Wales sarcoma MDT is hosted by Swansea Bay University Health Board and meets every Wednesday morning.

Qualifications:

• Registered with the GMC
• Licensed to practice
• SCE Medical Oncology
• Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education

Experience:

• Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff.
• Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service.
• Values partnership with other agencies.
• Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff.
• Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit.
• (Specific) Experience of treating Lung and Sarcoma cancers.
• Development and commissioning of oncology services.
• Experience of research in Lung/Sarcoma.

Skills & Abilities:
