The Audiology service in Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBU HB) provides hearing and balance assessment, advice and management to adult and paediatric patients in primary, community and hospital settings across the area. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The postholder may be expected to perform audiological investigations, create individual patient management plans, take aural impressions and prescribe hearing aid systems using real ear measurements. Dependent on experience they may be asked to perform routine ear care and micro-suction wax removal. They may also be expected to carry out domiciliary visits to housebound patients and visit patients on hospital wards to carry out hearing aid maintenance and support trainees within the service. The location of the shifts and duties will be dependent on service need.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Bsc (Audiology), eligibility for registration with AHCS
  • Working knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology
  • Audiological Quality Standards
  • British Society of Audiology protocols
  • Develop knowledge and skills through CPD
  • Membership of British Association of Audiologists / British Society of Audiology

Experience

  • Performing a range of routine audiological investigations
  • Counselling and advising hearing-impaired patients
  • Experience with Audiology clinical software systems

Skills

  • Taking earmould impressions, fitting and prescribing hearing aids

Essential Aptitude and abilities

  • Ability to deal sympathetically with patients and their relatives and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to communicate technical information to colleagues, patients, manufacturers and suppliers
  • Adhere to and demonstrate SBU Values & Behaviours
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable, levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
