Swansea Bay University Health Board (formerly ABMU) was created on April 1, 2019 and covers a population of around 390,000 in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas with a budget of around £1bn. The health board currently employs approximately 12,500 staff.

The Health Board has three major hospitals providing a range of services: and in Swansea, and in Baglan, Port Talbot. We also have a community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals.

Swansea Bay UHB forms part of ‘A Regional Collaboration for Health’ (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda University Health Board and Swansea University. ARCH is a unique collaboration project aimed at improving the health, wealth and wellbeing of south west Wales.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and dedicated person to contribute, and improve our patient-centered service. Ideally, the post holder will have significant clinical experience of vascular scanning, post SVT accreditation/equivalent qualifications; however, applications from non-accredited Clinical Vascular Scientists or those who have nearly completed the vascular STP training will be considered on a lower AfC pay band.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an accredited vascular scientist / vascular sonographer to join this progressive and supportive multi-professional team working in the expanding Vascular Surgery Department alongside Vascular Surgeons, Vascular Interventional Radiologists, Stroke & Renal Teams, Sonography colleagues and specialist nursing teams. As part of the South West Wales Vascular Network you will work closely with our nine vascular surgeons, vascular radiologists and vascular nurse specialists playing an important role in the management of patients with vascular disease.

You will be responsible for carrying out and independently reporting on a full range of investigations, including carotid artery duplex, upper and lower limb arterial and venous Duplex, EVAR follow-up, pre-operative marking, and pre- and post-fistula assessment. You will also participate in one-stop consultant led outpatient clinics, rapid access clinics and support the TIA pathway. You will be encouraged to participate in the audit and research activities of the Unit and work closely with our clinical colleagues to further develop the service.

The applicant should have experience in vascular ultrasound and preferably have full accreditation (AVS) with the Society for Vascular Technology (SVT) of GB and Ireland, NHS Scientific Training Programme Post graduate certification or equivalent qualification.

Swansea Bay University Health Board Vascular Laboratory is seeking to recruit an experienced Clinical Vascular Scientist or vascular Sonographer to join our friendly and dynamic team. The Vascular Laboratory is sited within Morriston hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals in Wales with around 720 beds. It is well equipped with current imaging technology using Canon’s Aplio i700 to achieve high diagnostic quality imaging for our patients and referrers.

We specialise in a range of non-invasive peripheral vascular investigations i.e. duplex ultrasound scans (carotid, lower limb arterial/venous, upper limb arterial/venous, aortic aneurysm, EVAR and graft surveillance) and vascular physiology studies. This role presents a great opportunity to work within a key service for the South West Wales Vascular network.

You will also be required to perform tasks to help with the smooth-running of the service, to contribute to the development of departmental strategic annual plans; towards gaining/maintaining IQIPS accreditation, support training initiatives, take part in clinical research/audit and take responsibility for his/her own continuing professional development. This position is full time but part-time hours will also be considered.
