Are you a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist who wishes to develop their clinical skills and experience? Do you strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs? Are you flexible and motivated? Do you work well in a team? Then we are the team for you!

We have one permanent Speech and Language Therapist post in our paediatric service. You will join our friendly and established team of both Therapists and Assistant Practitioners and work across a range of settings and specialties within Swansea Bay. This will include working across clinics and schools to support a variety of children's communication needs.

We are a welcoming and forward-thinking team working closely with our partners in schools, support services and Health. The post holder will also benefit from professional support and development opportunities to develop their NQP competencies from specialist SLT colleagues, Band 7 SLT leads, as well as multi-agency members. We offer regular team meetings and a wide range of CPD opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be passionate, hard-working and dynamic with an interest in service improvement. You will have excellent team working skills and be willing to work flexibly across sites and locations.

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage a range of speech, language and communication difficulties. You will work with a shared specialist caseload of children and young people across the footprint as well as working at the targeted and universal level to deliver training to parents/carers and staff. You will be facilitated to support student placements as we strongly value this. Working with Welsh medium pupils forms part of the role and so the ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

There will be opportunities to gain skills organising and creating training, developing supervision skills and participating in total team development days and team meetings. You will also work with our senior therapists and wider team to ensure our service provides efficient, effective, patient centred care.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
  • Registered member of Health and Care Professions Council
  • Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Membership of CEN
  • Clinical placement or previous post
  • Assessment administration and autonomous caseload management
  • Planning and implementation of treatment
  • Working within an MDT

Essential Aptitude and abilities

  • Accurate administration and analysis of assessments leading to differential diagnosis, competent IT skills
  • Proficient verbal and written skills to share complex and sensitive information
  • Work independently and without direct supervision and manage conflict and generate solutions
  • Take an active role in the multidisciplinary team negotiating case management as appropriate
  • Demonstrates understanding of wider Public Service Policies E.g. Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity etc. Implementing local/national service policies and procedures
  • Concentrate intensely for prolonged periods of time and manage frequent exposure to and delivery of distressing information
  • Manage frequently unpleasant working conditions e.g. sputum, body fluids, aggression.
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
  • Experience of, and resolution of conflict
  • Experience of audit projects within own clinical area

Other Essential Criteria

  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet the business needs
  • Ability to work flexible and participate in 7-day rota working to meet the business needs as required
