Radiographer in Swansea

The Radiographer will provide safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy planning and treatment to patients across a broad range of tumour sites. The role requires a high level of professional accountability, regulatory compliance, and effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Legally responsible for ensuring appropriate authorisation and patient benefit in all treatments.
• Maintain a safe working environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
• Work on a rotational basis through pre‑treatment and treatment areas.
• Ensure strict confidentiality and uphold personal integrity.
• Deliver and verify radiotherapy treatments in accordance with established protocols.
• Ensure compliance with IR (ME) R regulations governing ionising radiation.
• Maintain competencies in treatment techniques, equipment operation, patient care, communication, innovation, and manual dexterity.
• Adhere to rota/shift schedules and undertake on‑call duties as required.
• Engage in out‑of‑hour emergency duties, weekend on‑call, and bank holiday work as operationally needed.
• Communicate complex treatment information and symptom management to patients/carers, overcoming barriers such as learning disabilities, ethnicity, psychiatric issues, deafness, and age.
• Liaise with nursing, medical staff, other hospitals to coordinate appointments and patient transfers.
• Use a reassuring and empathetic approach when discussing treatment procedures with patients and relatives.
• Assist in managing workload on machines and CT/Sim, including scheduling appointments.
• Adjust patient care pathways as necessary, including contacting patients and modifying treatment schedules.
• Act as an autonomous practitioner capable of interpreting complicated treatment plans and calculations.
• Ensure daily quality assurance activities are performed.
• Assess and evaluate planning and verification volumes and calculate treatment sheets.
• Accurately input, retrieve, and maintain patient and treatment data across computer systems for research, audits, and statistical reporting.
• Maintain and update all mandatory training and clinical skill requirements.
