An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN) to be at the forefront of driving up standards and quality in diabetes care in Swansea Bay University Health Board. To provide efficient and effective professional care in the specialised field of diabetes care, ensuring standards of patient care are consistently maintained in accordance with agreed operational policies.
Responsible for promoting and safeguarding the wellbeing and interests of all patients, staff and visitors to the service. To strive to improve working practice to increase efficacy and success rates. To work independently as a specialist nurse in their own right. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Diabetes patients and will be required to work in line with the Health Board’s values. The post holder is expected to work with autonomy to provide highly specialised professional clinical advice to colleagues to ensure high standards of direct care delivery. The post holder will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team, including consultants, dietitians, admin support and wider Diabetes nursing and clinical teams across the Swansea Bay Health Board.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide specialist nursing care, advice, guidance and leadership deploying their specialist theoretical and practical knowledge to assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidenced-based nursing care.
- Provide specialist advice and excellent clinical practice.
- Work autonomously and manage own workload as a lead specialist in their area.
- Provide specialist education and training to staff.
- Work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical colleagues.
- Demonstrate the Health Board’s values and ensure that others demonstrate the same values.
- Undertake audit; CPD; teaching; research; administration, clinics; ward-based work; telephone consultations etc.

- Specialist post graduate qualification or equivalent experience
- Proficient level of knowledge in clinical speciality
- Able to undertake a literature search and critically appraise research papers
