Senior E-Prescribing Facilitator - Internal

Digital Services at Swansea Bay University Health Board are seeking to appoint an additional Senior E-Prescribing Facilitator to the Digital Transformation Department. Digital Services are integral to the delivery of the Health Board’s digital strategy, and the directorate plays a key role in supporting thousands of staff to provide effective services. We help clinical staff manage and monitor patients throughout their care and support Health Board staff to review and redesign the range of services provided.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about technology and its use to improve the quality of care and patient safety. The post holder will utilise specialist pharmaceutical knowledge and IT skills to support the E-Prescribing team to ensure the continued successful implementation and ongoing support of the hospital electronic prescribing and medicines administration (HEPMA) system at Swansea Bay University Health Board.

Main duties of the job

This vacancy is open to applicants who have current, professional registration with the GPhC. Are you passionate about the use of digital to support and enhance safe patient care? The Digital Programmes department at Swansea Bay UHB are looking to appoint a pharmacy registered professional to join the hospital electronic prescribing and medicines administration (HEPMA) team. Electronic prescribing and medicines administration will have replaced almost all paper medication administration charts at Neath Port Talbot, Singleton, Morriston, Gorseinon, Glanrhyd and Cefn Coed Hospitals with the view to extend the implementation to further areas.

Upon completion of the implementation, the HEPMA team will support its ongoing use across the hospital sites, supporting safer digital medications practices and ensuring supporting the service delivery group to realise all expected benefits.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Senior E-Prescribing Facilitator will use their specialist knowledge and experience alongside digital skills to ensure the continued successful implementation and maintained safe utilisation of the hospital electronic prescribing and medicines administration (HEPMA) solution at Swansea Bay University Health Board. A key role requirement will be to participate in, plan and lead ongoing research that will complement benefits realisation. This will involve audits pre and post-implementation.

The Senior E-Prescribing Facilitator will have the freedom to initiate actions within broad policies, seeking advice as necessary. The post holder will have responsibility for:

• Facilitating the relevant HEPMA Working Groups to discuss and agree the transition from paper to digital medication charts/other processes
• Designing/adapting information systems/integration to meet required specifications
• Business change activities
• Specialist system training
• Providing second/third line IT support to end users
• Extraction and reporting of prescribing and medications administration data to report progress against the expected benefits of HEPMA

Qualifications and Knowledge

• Postgraduate diploma level education or equivalent specialist knowledge in a relevant field
• Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
• Improving Quality Together(IQT) Bronze
• Improving Quality Together(IQT) Silver
• Working knowledge/experience of using electronic prescribing and/or medicine administration system

Experience

• Working in an acute hospital
• Working with electronic clinical information systems
• Change management
• Data manipulation using a range of data formats and tools e.g. basic pivot tables/Excel graphs
• Carrying out audits
• Delivering training and evaluating success
• Writing standard operational procedures (SOPs) or policies and putting them into practice

Aptitude and Abilities
