Do you share our Health Board values; Caring for each other; Working together; Always improving? If so, we would love for you to come and work for Swansea Bay University HB. This is a new less than full‑time post for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine. The post holder will join a team of eight consultants and specialist doctors responsible for the provision of integrated Specialist Palliative Medicine services to the Health Board, based at Ty Olwen, Morriston Hospital and Y Rhosyn within Neath Port Talbot Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Deliver community specialist palliative care at Y Rhosyn Neath and Port Talbot Hospital, Baglan, Ty Olwen and Morriston Hospital, meeting the needs of the local population.
- Take clinical responsibility for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of palliative and end‑of‑life care, ensuring excellent symptom control, holistic assessment and integrated support for patients and families across home, community hospitals, acute hospitals and specialist inpatient units.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, GPs, CNS teams, allied health professionals and voluntary sector partners to deliver safe, efficient and patient‑centred care.
- Participate in a 1:7 non‑resident on‑call rota, providing telephone advice and occasional direct assessment for palliative care needs across South West Wales.
- Engage in teaching and training of medical students, junior doctors and other health‑care professionals, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate education linked to Swansea and Cardiff universities.
- Contribute to research, quality improvement and audit activities, supporting the Health Board’s university‑level research and education ambitions.
