We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a 10 session Consultant Gynaecologist, subspecialising in urogynaecology. This is a replacement post joining a team of 21 Consultants responsible for the provision of O& G services at Singleton Hospital within Swansea Bay University Health Board.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide, along with other consultant colleagues (as appropriate), a service in the specialty to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and promotion of health.
  • To have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge (as appropriate) in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).
  • Working with consultant colleagues and the multi‑professional team you will have continuing responsibility for the well‑being of all patients under your care allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff.
  • In partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues, you will also have responsibility for the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of the services in which you work, in line with the values, operational policies and the Annual Plan of the Health Board.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot. Mental Health and learning Disabilities services are provided both in hospital settings and other community settings. We also have community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals. The Health Board is part of a Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University, aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of Southwest Wales. Person Specification – Qualifications

  • Essential
  • Fully Registered with the GMC and licensed to practice
  • MRCOG (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of training, experience and independent practice in Obstetrics, General Gynaecology & Urogynaecology
  • Evidence of training in urodynamics
  • CCT or eligible within six months of interview date and can demonstrate evidence that they are expected to achieve CCT within 6 months
  • Certificate of completion of Subspecialty training in Urogynaecology
  • Evidence of training and independent practice in minimal access surgery
  • Desirable
    • Endo‑anal scanning training
    • Work in a perineal/pelvic floor clinic
    • Certificate of competency in Urodynamics

    Experience – Essential

    • Evidence of thorough and broad training in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology
    • Able to independently manage Urogynaecology patients and undertake and report urodynamics
    • Ability to manage emergency gynaecology independently
    • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients; perform appropriate surgery for emergency gynaecology; independently manage women with complications in early pregnancy.
    • Evidence of active participation in clinical audit.

    Experience – Desirable

    • Evidence of initiating change through the audit process

    Research

    • Experience of research, willingness to continue participation, publication in peer‑reviewed journals, achieved a higher research degree (e.g., MD(Res)/PhD), ability to supervise postgraduate research
