Job overview
An opportunity has arisen within Laboratory Medicine for a Biomedical Support Worker. The successful candidate will work as part of a team, delivering laboratory results to in-patients, out-patients within our hospitals, and to GP surgeries within the Swansea Bay UHB.
Main duties of the job
Phlebotomy duties on wards and clinics.
Receipt and registration of patient samples, such as blood and urine prior to analysis.
Assisting in the referral of specimens to specialist laboratories.
Communicating laboratory information to users.
Clerical duties.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- Good educational standard (GCSE or equivalent passes in English and Maths).
Desirable criteria
- Basic keyboard qualification, e.g. ECDL, Typewriting/ Word processing
- Science at GCSE or above.
- IBMS Certificate of Achievement Level 1 and/or 2
Experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of NHS or healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of hospital specialties
- Understanding of Pathology service and laboratory experience.
- Good employment history.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power-point etc.).
- Phlebotomy skills
