Overview

In partnership with our training providers and private partners, SBUHB is offering an opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification in Electrical Engineering within an NHS environment. These positions are a four-year fixed-term contract, with full-time hours of 37.5 per week. The posts will be based initially at Morriston Hospital. As part of the apprenticeship programme, post holders will undertake planned rotations across all sites including Singleton Hospital. This rotation is designed to provide comprehensive experience across a range of specialities and settings, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of Estates operations. This is a structured apprenticeship programme that combines practical experience with academic study. You will be working within designated areas of the Health Board, working alongside experienced colleagues to carry out a range of supervised electrical duties.

Main duties

  • To obtain theoretical and practical training to enable individual to install, maintain, test and repair a range of complex electrical equipment/plant to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Support qualified Craftspersons in the maintenance and repair of building services and systems. Assist with tasks including installation, fault diagnosis and repairs to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of all assets. The level of direct involvement and autonomy will progressively increase throughout the Apprenticeship, in line with the apprentice\’s developing skills, experience, and training.
  • The Post holder will be required to become suitably knowledgeable in all aspects of the taught apprenticeship, leading to the successful completion of NVQ 3 – Electrical Installation and a HNC National Certificate/Diploma.
  • The Post holder will be expected to attend the training provider\’s establishment and work with our private partners as part of the apprentice training on a part time, day, or block release basis and to ensure that all deadlines for the submitting of work, portfolios, assignments are delivered on time.

Qualifications and requirements

  • As a prerequisite to applying for an apprenticeship the candidates must have the following qualifications.
  • First year of NVQ level 3 – Electrical Installation completed.
  • PEO Level 2 – Electrical.
  • A minimum of 3 GCSE\’s (C or above) in Maths, English and Science or equivalent.
  • Ability to drive to travel between sites.
