Overview

Purpose of the Role: To ensure the effective upkeep, cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of Faith in Families centres, supporting the smooth running of services and activities through practical support and caretaking duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Upkeep and general care of the centres.
  • Cleaning of internal and external areas according to the cleaning schedule.
  • Periodic deep cleaning and decoration of internal spaces, including working at height.
  • Responsible disposal of refuse and recycling, including tip runs where necessary.
  • General maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., plumbing, painting).
  • Grounds maintenance and coordination of tree care.
  • Portage duties including moving furniture and equipment.
  • Routine testing of fire panels and emergency lighting.
  • Reporting defects in buildings, furniture, fittings, and equipment.
  • Ensuring equipment is cared for in line with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Locking and unlocking premises in coordination with centre staff if needed.
  • Acting as a key-holder and responding to alarm call-outs.
  • Emergency call-outs for repairs or access during holidays/weekends.
  • Preparing rooms for functions and events.
  • Assembly of flat-pack furniture and play equipment as required.
  • Any other work requested by, and deemed appropriate by Faith in Families by agreement.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in caretaking, maintenance, or similar practical roles.
  • Basic skills in plumbing, painting, and general repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety practices.
  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks, including working at height.
  • Reliable and flexible, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Clean, current driving licence.
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours and respond to emergency call-outs.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working in a community or charity setting.
  • Knowledge of fire safety systems and emergency procedures.
  • Familiarity with grounds maintenance and external contractors.
  • Basic IT skills for logging maintenance issues or completing reports.
