We are seeking a new treasurer to join our majority autistic women board at a time of change. We have grown significantly in the past 3 years and are looking for a treasurer to work with our board and newly appointed charity accountants.

What difference will you make? As a treasurer with financial skills and experience, you can help our board make good financial decisions during a time of significant change. This year we will be bringing in a charity accountant for the first time and we anticipate that the treasurer will be involved with ensuring that our financial processes are as efficient as possible.

What are we looking for? You will have good experience in financial management and accountancy, preferably having worked with a growing charity before. You will be able to work well with our new charity accountant and interim CEO to improve and streamline our processes. You will help provide clarity and be able to explain financial reports. You will be LGBTQIA+ inclusive and will work well as part of a small team. Our board is majority autistic women, but we are happy to invite non-autistic people of any gender to join us. You don’t need to know anything about autism, as we are happy to provide training about autism if that would be useful. Our board is currently underrepresented by trans women, people of colour, and those who are non‑speaking or who have other disabilities. We would very much welcome someone who fits these characteristics.

What will you be doing? As treasurer you will have an essential role in contributing to our work contributing to the wellbeing of autistic women and girls (both cis and trans) and non-binary people in Scotland. SWAN Autism Scotland is a small charity that makes a huge difference through the work of our majority autistic staff and 80 autistic volunteers. In the past 3 years we have grown significantly, bringing in many more volunteers, and reaching even more autistic people than before. Our CEO is currently on a long-term absence so we have newly appointed a part-time interim CEO who would work closely with the treasurer to develop efficient financial processes. We are in the process of onboarding a charity accountant to take on some of the work done by our treasurer. Despite a nationally challenging funding arena, SWAN has funding from a wide range of providers with whom we have very positive relations. We also have developed a funding stream through providing very well received training to organisations such as the NHS.
