We are looking to recruit a Barista/Front of House Team Member for our lovely cafe, The Nordic Kitchen, to help provide our guests with the Scandinavian hygge experience of friendliness, efficient service and the best coffee around. The Nordic Kitchen is situated within Swallows Nurseries and Gardens, a beautiful site with show gardens and our own kitchen garden.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take orders accurately with confidence and good menu knowledge.
  • Prepare and serve a range of high quality coffee, machas and teas.
  • Operate coffee machines, grinders, water boilers safely, following set maintenance procedures.
  • Plate up and serve cakes, sandwiches and pre-prepared salads.
  • Create a welcoming space, clearing tables efficiently and following all food safety and hygiene procedures.
  • Carry out food hygiene procedures and daily opening and closing duties, including cleaning cafe, outside areas and customer toilets.
  • Receive and check deliveries from suppliers, conduct stock checks and restock fridges.
  • Manage time effectively during busy periods to ensure prompt, high-quality service.
  • Contribute positively to a friendly, respectful team culture.

Job Requirements

  • Preferably barista trained, or experience of hospitality/food service and preparation, but full training offered for the right person.
  • Enjoys working in a team, and can manage fast-paced environments.
  • Confident user of payment systems, and dealing with cards and cash.
  • Contribute to the Scandi Hygge ethos of companionable and friendly atmosphere.
  • Have own transport.

Job Details

  • This is a part-time role (3 days per week), with the potential for a full time role. Weekend work on a rota will be required. Working hours are 9am to 5pm, though with some flexibility needed according to cafe opening times.
  • Full training will be provided in all aspects of the role, including use of our excellent coffee machines and food hygiene requirements.
