We are lucky to be situated in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and are a truly mixed, 13-vet independent practice with a varied caseload. We’re expanding our vet team to ensure everyone can enjoy a better work-life balance.
Our team of experienced vets is a treasure trove of knowledge, and they\’re always eager to lend a helping hand and share their expertise. We’re a very friendly, supportive bunch who enjoy working here, with many of the team having been here for a long time. Lesley, Isla, and Kathrine have all been with us for about 18 years, and Hazell joined us on EMS in 2019; luckily, we haven’t been able to get rid of her since!
Here\’s what Katherine has to say…
“Why do I love working at Swale Vets? Where to start?! I came to work in a mixed practice in North Yorkshire for a couple of years, and 18 years later, I’m still here! You’ll struggle to find a more friendly and supportive bunch. It’s a properly mixed job, which, let’s be honest, are few & far between nowadays. Although there are always going to be ups & and downs, I can safely say that after all this time, I still 100% love my job and feel lucky to live and work in such a beautiful area.”
As we are already supporting recent graduates, we are ideally looking for a vet with some experience to join our team. We fully support developing your skills and following your interests, and as a forward-thinking practice, our default answer tends to be ‘yes’ rather than ‘no’; so if you have a passion you’re burning to develop or you have a particular bias, we would love to chat about the options available. There is also the potential for long-term partnership opportunities.
We have seven experienced RVNs and a great reception team to help support our vets and keep everything running smoothly. We also have all the usual toys and gadgets needed to do a great job and are always happy to invest in new kit.
Our vets work a 4-day week, and consults finish at a civilised 5.45 pm, with time provided during the day to catch up on admin, so you can normally be out the door on time. We provide our own out-of-hours, looking to move towards a 1:10 first on-call rota. We operate a 2ndon-call system to ensure you always have backup when needed.
We are a friendly, sociable team and enjoy getting together outside of work. Even our CPD evenings turn into a social event, where we have food and drink and are often joined by a neighbouring practice as we all get along well. We also have a Facebook group called ‘Swaleys’, which everyone is added to when you join the practice so that you feel involved and included right from the beginning. Our Christmas parties are also legendary – see our video for the full glory of Gavin dressed as a turkey!!
Richmond is a picturesque Georgian market town where you will find a mixture of independent shops, cafes and pubs lining the cobbled streets, museums, a cinema, and the theatre. It’s an excellent location for exploring the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park. With its spectacular scenery, you won’t regret getting to know this amazing area, with its picture-postcard setting and great places for pub lunches.
We are offering:
- A salary up to £55,000
- 5 weeks holiday, plus bank holidays
- RCVS and VDS paid, plus BVA membership & one other veterinary association
- Generous CPD allowance
- Private health care
- Company vehicle available for work (or work and personal use if preferred)
