Swalcliffe Park School is a non-maintained specialist day and residential school for high functioning autistic boys aged 10-19. The school is a not-for-profit Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). As the Assistant Principal & Head of Residential Care you will be overseeing all aspects of the Residential Care and Health Care provision, you will be the Designated Lead for the Safeguarding Team and support the implementation of the school’s Independence curriculum across the school. Working as the Assistant Principal & Head of Residential Care you will be in a senior role which includes some onsite overnight manager responsibilities as part of the wider leadership team, as well as a range of whole school responsibilities. You will play a leading role in whole school curriculum, operational and strategic and development including organisational self-evaluation in line with our ‘Quality of Life’ framework and approach. SUMMARY OF DUTIES Your duties as a member of the Senior Leadership Team will include: * Contribute to and lead on aspects of whole school improvement planning and self-evaluation * Develop and review relevant school’s policies and relevant information for students, families and other stakeholders * Work collaboratively to support all aspects of external Quality Assurance e.g. Ofsted, Autism Accreditation, LA, Charity Commission * Support and encourage links with families * Chair Annual Review meetings * Prepare reports for and attend the Governing Body meetings as required * Maintain optimum numbers of students and cost-effective staffing model Your duties as Assistant Principal & Head of Residential Care will include: * Lead and manage the work of the Residential Care and Health Care Management teams within SPS * Lead on and monitor progress within the Independence and Residential Care strands of the SIP including budget management * Act as the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Safeguarding Team * Lead on contact with Social Care Services: Children’s Social Workers liaison, Looked After Children and Early Help * Contribute to the school’s self evaluation processes and culture of reflective practice CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS * Minimum QCF (NVQ) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health & Social Care Services (Children and Young People’s Residential Care Management) or equivalent professional qualification from teaching, health, social work or therapeutic backgrounds * Evidence of recent and continuing professional development in your professional field and its relevance to the post’s requirements, including training in supporting the safeguarding and residential social care provision of children * Working within a children’s residential care and educational setting in a senior care/line management role * Leading a team of staff in delivering safe, effective and innovative service to children, young people and their families * Understanding and maintaining professional boundaries with students and their families * Working within confidential and Data Protection boundaries * EHC plans and the Annual Review process * Own scope of practice and person-centred support * Understanding and managing financial budgets * An outcome based approach to measuring performance and its application in Education and Care services for children * Residential Care on Call, Sleep in duties and working to agreed Residential Care rota which covers weekdays and some weekends in * A car driver and access to a car for work purposes This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
