We are looking for an experienced Tool Maker on our twilight shift (11 am – 21.00 pm working Monday to Thursday). We are seeking a skilled and self‑motivated Toolmaker with a strong background in manual machining and tool reconditioning. This role is focused on precision work using manual lathes and milling machines, alongside surface grinding, tool regrinding, and heat treatment processes. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship and the ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately, while engaging proactively with internal customers to deliver practical, high‑quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture, modify, and repair tooling using manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
- Independently, re‑grind a wide range of cutting tools, including drills, reamers, and similar end‑working tools, ensuring accuracy and timely turnaround.
- Perform heat treatment processes as required to support tooling performance and longevity.
- Carry out maintenance repairs to jigs, make new fixtures, gauges, and other tooling.
- Set up and operate all relevant machine tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications with a high degree of accuracy.
- Apply problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve non‑routine tooling or machining issues.
- Work collaboratively with customers and colleagues to develop practical and cost‑effective solutions.
Skills & Experience
- Strong hands‑on experience in traditional toolmaking, with a focus on manual machining processes.
- Proven ability to re‑grind and restore a variety of cutting tools independently.
- Competence in surface grinding and heat treatment techniques.
- Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and materials.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards.
- Effective communication skills and a customer‑focused mindset.
