Job Description
What will you be doing?
We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Research and Development Assistant Manager to join our team in Birmingham.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing and executing tax research projects, with a focus on R&D tax incentives and credits within the IT/Software sector.
As an Assistant Manager your responsibilities will include
- Support and lead on technical discussions with the software team at the client to establish which of the activities undertaken on a project meet the R&D tax criteria as set out in the DSIT guidelines.
- Prepare and review technical reports and presentations for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Lead and coordinate on R&D tax engagements, ensuring timely delivery and high‑quality outputs.
- Analyse complex issues and provide well‑reasoned solutions to clients and team members.
- Stay abreast of changes in UK tax legislation, particularly those related to R&D tax credits.
- Manage and mentor junior team members, overseeing their work and professional development.
- Liaise with HMRC and other regulatory bodies on behalf of clients when necessary.
- Contribute to the development of new service offerings and methodologies in R&D tax.
- Collaborate with other departments to provide comprehensive tax solutions to clients.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality control procedures and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.
- Previous experience in R&D tax field.
- Proven experience in managing projects and teams.
- Advanced knowledge of UK tax laws and regulations, particularly those related to R&D.
- Expertise in UK tax legislation and HMRC guidelines.
- Proficiency in tax research software and databases.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
