We’re seeking a talented individual to join our Financial Reporting Team in Birmingham on a fixed term contract. The Director/Associate Director is part of the leadership team with responsibility for collaboratively leading on operations and project integrations. With strong leadership skills and an appetite for Business Development, you will be keen to help lead and continue to build the team. Our Financial Reporting Team is based in Birmingham, currently consisting of 30 members with plans to grow further. The team has a national focus affording the postholder excellent opportunities to develop relationships and network across the whole firm.
As Financial Reporting Director/Associate Director, your responsibilities will include among others:
- Staff Management: Co-leading our management team to effectively project manage the delivery of client work.
- Training and Development: Working with the wider business to establish a structured training programme for the Financial Reporting team and ensure that timely feedback is given to staff on all jobs and any performance concerns are addressed.
- Client Contact: Ensuring that clients receive an efficient, proactive and timely service; internal liaison with client Partners and other S&W Partners staff where appropriate to ensure all are kept up to date with relevant issues; add value to the client relationship, identifying and developing opportunities to improve the clients’ businesses and/or develop additional services for S&W.
- Technical: Oversee the provision of financial reporting services to clients under IFRS and UK GAAP, including highly complex consolidations and ensuring the team maintains an awareness of changes in accounting standards and the wider economic environment to understand the commercial impact on our clients’ businesses as well as the implications for our work.
- Financial: Overseeing the overall financial performance of the department, ensuring divergence from budget is understood and appropriately addressed, monitoring fee structures, WIP and debtor management across the client base to ensure appropriate returns are achieved by the department.
- Business/Practice Development: Preparation of proposals for new work, attendance at marketing events, development of personal contacts and identification and development of opportunities for S&W with current clients.
To be successful in this role, you should be ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent with significant financial reporting experience gained within a professional services environment under UK GAAP and IFRS. You should have demonstrable working knowledge of accounting standards, including industry specifics and their application, and experience of working with businesses of all sizes, including international groups. Extensive experience of team management, development and motivation to ensure best performance is essential, along with experience of business development activities such as targeting, preparation of proposal documents, proposal presentations and attendance of networking events. A good working knowledge of skill requirements of staff at various levels to ensure work is undertaken by the appropriate individual is also necessary, as well as monitoring of financial performance on a team-wide and individual client basis.
