An exciting part‑time opportunity has arisen within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a talented, self‑motivated clinical scientist with specialist experience of vascular ultrasound imaging and a strong interest in teaching and research.

The successful applicant will become part of a thriving ultrasound physics team, based within the Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. The post comprises two complementary roles: teaching for 1½ days per week and contributing to a research programme for half a day per week.

In the first role, you will support the vascular specialism lead in the delivery of the MSc in Clinical Science course for Newcastle University, which is the sole UK provider of the core vascular modules for the academic component of the Scientist Training Programme. You will contribute to the design and delivery of our high quality teaching and assessment as part of the vascular and general modules in the master’s programme. This work will be informed by the experience you have gained previously in your clinical practice, academic study and training. As part of your development, we will encourage you to attend appropriate internal and external training courses.

In the second role, you will contribute to a well‑established vascular research programme at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, working with vascular surgeons, academic researchers and specialist nurses. You will carry out duplex Doppler ultrasound scanning as part of clinical trials and other grant‑funded research projects, as well as advising and supporting your research colleagues. To achieve this, you will possess appropriate clinical experience in vascular imaging, allowing you to scan confidently and to report independently.
