We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Assistant Shop Manager to support the day-to-day running of our St Vincent de Paul (SVP) charity shop located within our Community Centre. This is a rewarding role where you will help maximise sales, deliver excellent customer service, and support volunteers, all while contributing to the vital work of the SVP.
About the Role
Working closely with the Shop Manager, you will help ensure the shop operates efficiently, safely and in line with SVP values and retail standards. You will play a key role in driving income, maintaining high shop standards, and creating a welcoming environment for customers, donors and volunteers. On days when the Shop Manager is absent, you will be responsible for the effective and safe running of the shop. The role is based at our Community Support Centre in Bradford.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Shop Manager to maximise income through sales, Gift Aid, donations, recycling and online selling
- Actively promote and maximise Gift Aid, ensuring all donors are asked
- Help ensure a good flow of quality stock, effective stock rotation and strong visual presentation
- Support online selling by listing, processing and dispatching suitable items
- Deliver first-class customer service and help create a strong “sales through service” culture
- Support the recruitment, training and development of volunteers
- Help maintain a clean, safe and well-organised shop environment
- Adhere to cash handling, banking, health & safety and SVP policies and procedures
- Act as a key holder and cover the Shop Manager’s holidays where possible
- Engage appropriately with social media (within SVP guidelines) to support the shop and local community
About You
You will bring enthusiasm, organisation and a passion for charity retail, along with a genuine empathy for the values and ethos of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Essential
- Retail experience with a proven ability to work towards targets
- Good level of English, Maths and IT skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Organised, proactive and able to work collaboratively
- Commitment to high standards and continuous improvement
Desirable
- Charity retail experience and experience working with volunteers
- Advanced retail skills such as visual merchandising or training
- Knowledge or understanding of the SVP and its mission
- Experience using EPOS systems
