At Svitzer, we keep global trade moving — safely, efficiently, and as one team. We’re looking for a Team Leader to support operations at the Valero Terminal. This is a key frontline role, responsible for leading a shift team to deliver safe, compliant and efficient berthing, mooring and maintenance activities.
As Team Leader, you’ll take ownership of your shift — ensuring clear handovers, coordinating daily tasks, and working closely with the Shift Supervisor and Valero Operators. You’ll lead your team through berthing, unberthing, connections and disconnections, while remaining hands-on and actively involved in day-to-day activities. You’ll also lead on the delivery of scheduled maintenance requirements in line with Valero expectations, including painting, housekeeping and general site upkeep, ensuring standards are consistently maintained. While your primary responsibility is your assigned shift, you’ll support consistent standards, behaviours and ways of working across all Svitzer personnel operating at Valero.
You’ll ensure equipment is prepared and operational, carry out berth inspections, and maintain accurate records including labour utilisation and maintenance reporting. You’ll also support weather assessments, assist with monitoring operations when required, and ensure housekeeping standards are consistently met.
Safety, leadership and performance
Safety is central to everything we do. You’ll promote a strong safety culture through HIT tools and Lifesaving Rules, supporting Valero in achieving their Goal Zero standards and requirements. You’ll ensure hazards, near misses and incidents are reported and learned from, while creating an environment where people feel confident to speak up.
You’ll lead by example — setting clear expectations, maintaining high standards of behaviour and performance, and supporting the development of your team through coaching, knowledge sharing and training. By focusing on people, you’ll drive engagement, accountability and continuous improvement across your team. You’ll also play a key role in ensuring maintenance activities are completed and defects are reported in line with procedures.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience in a marine, port or industrial environment
- Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach
- Good communication and organisational ability
- A proactive mindset with a focus on safety and teamwork
- Willingness to support operational requirements, including overtime
What you get:
- A competitive salary of £42,216 per annum
- 28 days annual leave, supporting a healthy work-life balance
- Matched pension contributions, from a minimum of 6% up to 10%
- 4x pensionable salary life cover
- Access to Private Medical Insurance and Dental cover (self-funded)
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for wellbeing support
Why Svitzer?
You’ll be part of a global organisation with strong local roots, where your contribution directly supports safe and reliable operations every day.
