If You Can Work the Deck and Handle the Helm – Fawley Is Hiring.
Svitzer is looking for a Deckhand / Launch Coxswain to join our Fawley operation, working in one of the UK’s largest and most strategically important oil terminals and supporting critical towage and launch operations.
This is not a passive role. Working at Fawley demands reliability, awareness, adaptability, and pride in doing the job properly. You’ll live onboard (or on the barge) during your working period, take responsibility for the vessel, and be part of a small crew where standards, safety, and teamwork matter.
If you’re comfortable working on powerful vessels, handling small craft, and contributing wherever needed—not just sticking to one task—this could be the right role for you.
What The Job Really Looks Like
- Working as part of a close-knit crew in busy, high‑pressure environments
- Supporting the Master and officers to ensure safe, efficient operations
- Taking ownership of deck operations, safety routines and vessel standards
- Carrying out planned maintenance and keeping the vessel clean, safe and ready
- Getting involved in both deck and engine‑room tasks when required
- Committing to ongoing training and professional development
If you take pride in your vessel, your crew, and your work, you’ll fit in well here.
Why Svitzer?
- 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation – clear structure and real time off
- Living onboard or on the barge during your working rotation – no daily commuting
- Modern vessels, strong safety culture, and high operational standards
- A global company with local teams that look after their people
- Training, development and long‑term career opportunities
We don’t promise an easy job. We promise a worthwhile one.
What You Get
- Competitive salary of ÂŁ39,522.18 per annum
- Permanent, time for time contract
- Pension scheme – contributions start at 4%, with Svitzer contributing 6%
- Life Cover (4x basic salary) and Single Private Medical Insurance
- Employee Assistance Programme
What You Bring
- Able Seaman Certification or Efficient Deckhand Certification with a Navigational Watch Rating Certificate
- Valid ENG1 medical and STCW Basic Safety Training (minimum six months’ validity on all certificates)
- RYA Powerboat Level 2 (desirable)
- Harbour or terminal towage experience preferred, but not essential
- Small boat handling experience
- Full UK Driving Licence
- The legal right to live and work in the UK
- A strong work ethic, good communication skills, and a professional attitude
- Willing to work captive in the Fawley operation during your two‑week rotation
Ready to Get Started?
If you want hands‑on maritime work in a safety‑critical environment, where standards matter and effort is recognised, Svitzer in Fawley could be the next step in your career.
