We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us an Apprentice Port Technician based at our Milford Haven (Pembrokeshire) operations.

PURPOSE

The aim of the Svitzer Apprentice Port Technician (Pembrokeshire) positions is, in association with Pembrokeshire College, to assist learners in our local community in qualifying for modern technical apprenticeships. The duties will include maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems in a range of vessels, while working towards the Advanced Apprenticeship Framework at L3 Diploma in an engineering discipline

KEY AREAS OF WORK

  • Complete planned and unplanned maintenance and repair to RIBs, line-handling boats, barges and tugs operated by Svitzer in the port, up to and including some of the largest harbour tugs in service anywhere in the world.
  • Assist the Svitzer Port Technicians as may be required. This may include servicing, repairs, disassembly, reassembly and fabrication of parts.
  • Assist the Fitter with control of the supply of equipment, spares etc via a maintenance management system, e.g. SERTICA.
  • To assist, undertake and perform other duties which may be required from time to time to ensure the efficient operation of the business.

TERMS

  • The Advanced Apprenticeship framework at L3 includes a technical and vocational qualification as well as essential skills. These Svitzer Apprentice positions will satisfy the vocational element.
  • The positions will include a 1 day a week release to Pembrokeshire College and 4 days in the workplace, with a monthly visit from an assessor.
  • Successful candidates are expected to have a C or above in GCSE Maths and English language.
  • A full UK driving licence would be useful but by no means essential.
  • The position would be for a period of 24 months, with a nominal start date of 1 September 2025.
  • While there is no guarantee of permanent employment at the end of the period, every effort will be made to find a position for apprentices who show the necessary progress, commitment and meet both academic and work-related standards
