At Svitzer, we keep global trade moving — safely, efficiently, and as one team. We’re looking for a Shift Supervisor to lead operations at the Valero Refinery in Milford Haven. This is a pivotal role responsible for delivering safe, compliant and efficient shift operations while setting the standard for performance, behaviour and teamwork.

About the role

As Shift Supervisor, you will coordinate crewing across berthing, mooring and line boat activities, ensuring suitably qualified personnel are assigned to every task and that training and competencies are maintained. You’ll take ownership of shift delivery — managing handovers, crew allocation, operational records, and daily coordination with both Svitzer and Valero teams. While you are responsible for leading your designated shift, your role carries accountability across all Svitzer personnel operating at Valero, ensuring consistent standards, behaviours and compliance are maintained at all times. You’ll lead from the front, demonstrating high standards, confidently delegating responsibility, and addressing non-compliance where required. A key part of the role is maintaining accurate operational records, including vessel activity, vehicle and boat checks, defect reporting, timesheets and crew scheduling.

Safety, leadership and performance

Safety is central to everything we do. You’ll promote a strong safety culture through HIT tools and Lifesaving Rules, supporting our key stakeholder, Valero, in achieving their Goal Zero standards and requirements. You’ll ensure incidents, hazards and near misses are reported, investigated and learned from, while creating an environment where people feel confident to speak up. By placing people at the heart of operations, you’ll drive engagement, accountability and development, supporting continuous improvement and enabling both individual and team growth. You’ll also play a key role in motivating and developing your team, driving high performance and consistently meeting customer expectations, while maintaining full compliance with legislative, contractual, Svitzer and Valero requirements.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven leadership experience in a marine, port or industrial environment
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage dynamic operations
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Commitment to safety, compliance and high operational standards
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills

What you get:

  • A competitive salary of £49,455 per annum
  • 28 days annual leave, supporting a healthy work-life balance
  • Matched pension contributions, from a minimum of 6% up to 10%
  • 4x pensionable salary life cover
  • Access to Private Medical Insurance and Dental cover (self-funded)
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for wellbeing support

Why Svitzer?

You’ll be part of a global organisation with strong local roots, where your leadership directly impacts safety, performance and service delivery every day.

Closing date for applications will be 1600 on Monday 25th May 2026.
