About the Role
As a Senior Technical Estimator, you will be a pivotal leader within the Technical Support Team. You will act as the crucial link between sales, operations, and our clients' customers, ensuring that all contracts and quotes are resourced competently and priced accurately. This is a dynamic role for a career-conscious professional who excels at producing timely quotations, managing multiple workstreams, and providing strong team leadership. By maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and ethical business practices, you will drive client trust, secure new business, and support the operational success of our contracts. Key Responsibilities
- Estimating & Contract Management: Prepare timely and precise quotations for reactive maintenance jobs and small works daily, prioritizing urgent inquiries to prevent service disruption. Review engineer reports, photographs, and project information to build clear, comprehensive scopes of work. Source materials, obtain competitive subcontractor/supplier pricing, and assist in planning and procuring approved works. Ensure the smooth handover of approved works to the Operations team while maintaining accurate records across internal systems. Respond to quote queries, revisions, and variations while building strong relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams. Develop controls for Work in Progress (WIP) to ensure contract terms and profit margins are consistently met or exceeded.
- Technical Support & Compliance: Serve as a consistent office-based resource, providing technical support and guidance to the Operations team, clients, and mobile engineers. Proactively identify and elevate any health, safety, or compliance issues related to contracts or proposed works. Handle client complaints and invoice discrepancies swiftly and professionally to maintain trust and confidence.
- Leadership & Team Development: Provide day-to-day leadership for the estimating team, ensuring a motivated, high-performing, and engaged workforce. Conduct 1-1 meetings, appraisals, and performance reviews to support individual development and address underperformance proactively. Develop strategic ways of working to improve efficiency, consistency, and service delivery across the estimating function. Support succession planning by coaching junior team members and building internal capability.
What You Bring
Essential:
- Level 3 (minimum) trade qualification in at least one relevant discipline, plus an IOSH certification.
- Deep, time-served knowledge of commercial building services and maintenance standards.
- Experience supervising multi-disciplinary maintenance workforces and overseeing contractual commitments.
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office suite) and excellent numeracy and literacy for accurate quoting.
- Exceptional communication skills with a strong customer service ethos and an empathetic, logical approach to problem-solving.
- Proven ability to multitask, manage high-pressure workloads, and prioritize effectively.
Desirable:
- Multi-skilled trade qualifications.
- Supervisory or first-line management qualifications.
- Health & Safety construction-based qualifications.
- Knowledge of maintenance IT software systems (CAFM) and low-level mechanical/electrical design.
- Solid understanding of HVAC and Heating systems.
