The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer or Building Services Engineer looking to move away from a fully field-based position and into a technical supervisory role? We are recruiting for a Technical Operations Supervisor to support the day-to-day performance of a busy mobile engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, supporting other engineers and coordinating maintenance works. The position offers a greater office-based focus while allowing you to continue using your practical knowledge of commercial gas, heating and building services systems. You do not necessarily need to have previously held an Operations Supervisor title. Full training and support will be provided, with additional supervisory responsibilities introduced as you develop within the role. Practical gas engineering experience is essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the daily operation of the mobile engineering team
- Providing technical guidance to engineers, coordinators and clients
- Assisting with the planning of planned and reactive maintenance works
- Allocating jobs to engineers based on their skills, location and availability
- Monitoring job progress, engineer reports, return visits and suspended works
- Reviewing outstanding jobs and helping to reduce aged work in progress
- Supporting engineers with commercial gas, heating and wider building services issues
- Liaising with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
- Assisting with quotations for remedial works, repairs and urgent client requests
- Helping to resolve technical issues, complaints and service escalations
- Supporting high standards of engineer productivity, workmanship and report quality
- Assisting with Risk Assessments, Method Statements and site audits
- Ensuring job information, engineer updates and operational records remain accurate
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous hands-on experience working with commercial gas or heating systems
- Experience within building services, facilities management or commercial maintenance
- Strong practical knowledge of mechanical and building services systems
- Experience supporting or coordinating engineers, subcontractors or maintenance works
- Good technical fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Strong organisational and workload-planning skills
- Confidence communicating with engineers, clients and internal teams
- Relevant Level 3 trade qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience
- Full UK driving licence or the ability to travel independently when required
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as a Lead Engineer, Supervisor or Team Leader
- Experience supporting a mobile engineering workforce
- Knowledge of CAFM or maintenance management systems
- Understanding of statutory maintenance and compliance requirements
- Experience preparing or reviewing quotations
- IOSH Managing Safely or a similar qualification
