SVI is looking to recruit a BIM & Digital Estimating Engineer to support the continued development of our BIM, digital engineering and estimating capability.
This is a hybrid role working across BIM, design, estimating and fabrication.
A key focus will be developing how SVI uses BIM models and structured project data to generate quantities, support cost estimates and improve the efficiency and consistency of our estimating processes.
The longer-term objective is to help SVI move towards a more model-led estimating approach, where information within BIM models can be effectively translated into quantities, assemblies, labour requirements, material costs and ultimately project estimates.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interrogate Revit and BIM models provided at tender and preconstruction stages.
- Extract quantities, schedules and other structured information from BIM models.
- Work alongside the estimating team to convert model information into detailed cost estimates.
- Develop efficient model-based quantity take-off processes for ductwork, steelwork, supports and associated fabricated systems.
- Help develop standard BIM parameters, classifications, schedules and data structures suitable for estimating purposes.
- Review the quality and completeness of tender models and identify missing information, assumptions and commercial risks.
- Support the estimating team with measurement and interpretation of technical drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Develop standard components, assemblies and estimating rules for repeatable fabricated items.
- Assist with improving links between BIM information, estimating software, rate libraries and other business systems.
- Support SVI’s wider development of BIM, Df MA, modularisation and digital engineering processes.
- Work collaboratively with estimating, design, procurement, production and project teams to improve the flow of information from tender through to manufacture.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive BIM, quantity take-off and estimating activities
