Flexi Support Worker in Colchester

Flexi Support Worker in Colchester

Colchester Full-Time Remote
S

A Role Where Experience, Flexibility, Progression & Purpose Come Together

When one of our team members joined SV Care six months ago, they quickly realised this wasn’t like other organisations they’d worked for.

What stood out first was the genuine level of support. From access to a dedicated Development & Welfare Team to approachable, hands‑on senior leaders, SV Care puts staff wellbeing and growth at the heart of everything it does. The Responsible Individual regularly visits the homes, offers guidance and remains consistently available — creating a culture where staff feel supported, not isolated.

At SV Care, development and progression are encouraged from the beginning. We actively develop our people because we want today’s Support Workers to become tomorrow’s Senior Support Workers, Deputies and Registered Managers.

It’s this same commitment that drives the care we provide to children and young people. Our teams go above and beyond to build meaningful relationships, understand individual needs and create safe, positive environments.

We are now looking for an experienced Flexi Support Worker to join our team and provide experienced support across our children’s residential homes in Colchester, Romford and Basildon.

This is a different type of Support Worker role.

Rather than being based at one home and working a fixed shift pattern, you will work across our services depending on where support is needed. You will work alongside different teams, support different young people and adapt to the needs of each home.

Your rota will normally be confirmed approximately one week in advance, but shifts may change depending on the needs of our homes. You must therefore be comfortable with flexibility and be available to work across all 7 days of the week, including weekends and bank holidays where required.

This role is particularly suited to an experienced residential childcare professional who enjoys variety, is confident adapting to different environments and wants to use their experience to make a positive difference across multiple services.

You will report directly to our Responsible Individual, with regular supervision and development support from our Development & Welfare Team.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

You will play an important role in providing safe, consistent and nurturing care to children and young people across our homes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing advice, assistance and support to young people, safeguarding their welfare at all times.
  • Attending to young people’s practical, physical and emotional needs.
  • Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering unconditional and positive regard.
  • Meeting the physical, emotional, behavioural, cultural and educational needs of young people.
  • Acting as a positive role model and demonstrating appropriate pro‑social ways of dealing with problems.
  • Helping young people gain self‑control by appropriately challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro‑social conduct.
  • Following individual care plans and responding appropriately to changing needs.
  • Supporting young people with education, activities, appointments and community engagement.
  • Promoting independence, resilience and positive outcomes.
  • Responding appropriately to challenging and complex behaviours using agreed care plans, strategies and organisational procedures.

Key Working

Where allocated:

  • Take responsibility for a small number of young people and ensure their needs are fully met.
  • Build positive, warm and rewarding relationships.
  • Provide advice, assistance and emotional support to help young people address past and present difficulties.
  • Be ambitious for young people and help them achieve their goals and optimise their potential.
  • Support young people with education and extracurricular activities.
  • Keep accurate records and provide written reports for planning meetings, reviews and other meetings as required.
  • Empower young people and facilitate their involvement in decisions about their lives and future.
  • Act as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion.
  • Encourage young people to develop links with the community, attend off‑site activities and expand their social networks.

Flexible & Multi‑Site Working

  • Work across SV Care’s residential homes in Colchester, Romford and Basildon according to organisational and service needs.
  • Be available to work across a 7‑day rota, including weekends and bank holidays where required.
  • Work without a fixed shift pattern, with the rota normally confirmed approximately one week in advance.
  • Understand that shifts may change in response to the needs of the homes and young people.
  • Adapt quickly to different homes, teams, young people, routines and care plans.
  • Familiarise yourself with relevant care plans, risk assessments, policies and procedures when working in each home.
  • Maintain consistency of care and practice when moving between services.
  • Provide experienced support to teams where additional staffing, resilience or experience is required.

Working as Part of a Team

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the aims and objectives of each home.
  • Attend team and staff meetings where required and make a positive contribution.
  • Actively contribute to the development of the team and wider organisation.
  • Be willing to give and receive feedback.
  • Maintain effective communication when moving between homes.
  • Provide informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties.
  • Attend regular supervision with the Development & Welfare Team.
  • Monitor the conduct of colleagues and refer concerns appropriately, including through whistleblowing procedures.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all SV Care policies and procedures.

General Responsibilities

  • Attend young people’s meetings and contribute appropriately.
  • Drive company vehicles in line with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a current, clean driving licence.
  • Complete and maintain all training appropriate to the role.
  • Maintain accurate records and financial records appropriate to the role.
  • Take responsibility for your own and colleagues’ health, safety and welfare in accordance with organisational policies.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Responsible Individual or appropriate manager.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

We are looking for someone who can bring experience, confidence, flexibility and professionalism to the role.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working within children’s residential care.
  • Experience supporting children and young people with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Experience working effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience working within a regulated care environment.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and the ability to safeguard the welfare of young people.
  • Ability to build appropriate and positive relationships with children and young people.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Emotional resilience when working with challenging behaviours and complex situations.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different homes, teams and young people’s needs.
  • Ability to work across Colchester, Romford and Basildon.
  • Full, clean driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles.
  • Availability to work across all 7 days of the week, including weekends and bank holidays where required.
  • Willingness to work without a fixed shift pattern and adapt to changes in the rota.
  • Experience working at Senior Support Worker or equivalent level.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues.
  • Experience supporting young people with particularly complex needs or behaviours.
  • Knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and relevant childcare legislation.
  • Additional relevant childcare, sports, activity or outdoor pursuits qualifications.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • £15.23 per hour
  • Free extensive training and development opportunities.
  • Clear progression opportunities towards Senior Support Worker, Deputy and Registered Manager roles.
