Main duties of the job
- As a GP Practice Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients both in person and over the phone, providing a professional, friendly, and efficient service.
- Your main responsibilities will include booking and cancelling appointments, managing patient enquiries, processing repeat prescription requests, and handling sensitive information with confidentiality.
- You will also be responsible for registering new patients, updating records, scanning and filing documents, and supporting the clinical and admin teams to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
- Experience using EMIS or the ability to quickly learn clinical systems is essential.
- This is a busy and rewarding role that requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, strong IT skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner
- Answer telephone calls promptly and efficiently, dealing with patient queries or directing them appropriately
- Book, amend, and cancel appointments using EMIS clinical system
- Register new patients and update patient details as needed
- Process repeat prescription requests and liaise with clinical staff when needed
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Scan, file, and manage incoming documents and patient correspondence
- Monitor and respond to practice emails and tasks
- Support clinicians and management with administrative tasks
- Maintain a clean and organised reception area
- Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure excellent patient care
- Be flexible to cover shifts during staff absences, sickness, or annual leave where possible
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Confident in using computers and clinical systems (EMIS experience desirable)
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks
- High attention to detail and accuracy
