Role Overview

The Trainee Team Leader will supervise and coordinate daily primary processing operations, ensuring production targets are met, high food safety and hygiene standards are maintained, compliance with animal welfare regulations is achieved, and a strong health & safety culture is fostered. You will lead a team of operatives while working closely with technical, planning, and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support primary processing operatives.
  • Allocate tasks and ensure team members understand responsibilities.
  • Monitor performance and provide coaching or guidance.
  • Maintain discipline and ensure company policies are followed.
  • Production Management: Ensure daily production targets are achieved safely and efficiently. Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or processes to improve productivity. Coordinate with other departments such as lairage, packing, and quality control.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures. Conduct safety checks and report hazards or incidents. Ensure correct use of PPE. Promote a safe working environment.
  • Food Safety & Hygiene: Maintain compliance with food safety regulations and hygiene standards. Monitor sanitation of equipment and work areas. Follow HACCP and company food safety procedures.
  • Training & Development: Train new employees in operational procedures, safety, and hygiene. Mentor team members to improve skills and performance. Support management in staff development and evaluations.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate production records and reports. Report operational issues, equipment problems, or staffing concerns. Ensure compliance documentation is completed correctly.
