About The Role
Join the opening team at Pennington’s, a brand-new British Brasserie opening soon within the historic Castle Hotel. As a barback, you are our bartenders' support. You will ensure that the bartender has everything they need during service to keep everything running smoothly: clean glasses, enough garnishes, liquor, beer and spirits, ice cubes, etc.
Our barbacks clear tables and deliver food and drinks to tables, keeping our bar areas clear and tidy at all times as well as supporting the bar-tenders in every situation possible. Customer Service experience is essential, with previous bar or restaurant experience an advantage. You must be available to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As a Barback You'll Need
- Organisational skills: Keeps the bar stocked, clean, and well-arranged throughout a shift.
- Time management: Prioritises multiple tasks during busy periods.
- Attention to detail: Notices when supplies are running low and maintains cleanliness and presentation.
- Communication: Works closely with bartenders, servers, and managers to ensure efficient service.
- Teamwork: Supports colleagues and contributes to a positive working environment.
- Customer service: Interacts professionally and courteously with guests when needed.
- Multitasking: Handles stocking, collecting glassware, preparing garnishes, and cleaning simultaneously.
- Problem-solving: Responds quickly to unexpected shortages or busy service periods.
- Basic bar knowledge: Understands common drinks, glassware, spirits, beers, wines, and bar equipment.
What We’re Looking For
- You’re a natural people person with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Previous experience behind a busy bar, in an independent restaurant, brasserie, or hospitality venue is a big plus — but great energy and work ethic matter just as much.
- You stay calm under pressure and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
- Passionate about cocktails, wine, spirits, and delivering great hospitality.
- Comfortable working a mix of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
