About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Director of Sustainability to lead and shape the sustainability strategy for a rapidly growing data centre organisation. This is a high-impact leadership role, responsible for embedding sustainability across operations, development, supply chain, customer engagement and corporate strategy. As demand for digital infrastructure continues to accelerate, this individual will play a critical role in ensuring the organisation delivers against ambitious environmental targets while supporting commercial growth and operational excellence.

Reporting directly to the executive leadership team, you will work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Development, Procurement, Finance and Customer Success teams to drive measurable sustainability outcomes across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the organisation's sustainability and ESG strategy.
  • Lead decarbonisation initiatives across existing and future data centre facilities.
  • Drive energy efficiency programmes, including optimisation of PUE and resource utilisation.
  • Develop renewable energy procurement strategies and support power purchasing agreements.
  • Lead climate risk assessments and transition planning.
  • Oversee sustainability reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant frameworks and regulations.
  • Establish science-based targets and track performance against key sustainability metrics.
  • Partner with design and engineering teams to embed sustainability into new developments and retrofits.
  • Lead supply chain sustainability initiatives and vendor engagement programmes.
  • Support customer sustainability requirements and provide thought leadership on sustainability solutions.
  • Represent the organisation externally with investors, customers, regulators and industry bodies.
  • Build and develop a high-performing sustainability team.

Experience Required

  • Significant sustainability leadership experience within data centres, digital infrastructure, utilities, energy, real estate or other asset-intensive industries.
  • Strong understanding of energy management, carbon accounting and decarbonisation strategies.
  • Experience leading corporate sustainability programmes across multiple geographies.
  • Knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Experience engaging with executive leadership teams and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success delivering sustainability initiatives that balance environmental impact and commercial outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and stakeholder management skills.
  • Degree qualified in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.

Desirable Experience

  • Data centre sector experience.
  • Renewable energy procurement and power market knowledge.
  • Experience with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
  • Familiarity with TCFD, CSRD, ISSB and GHG Protocol reporting.
  • Experience supporting green building certifications and sustainable design standards.
  • International sustainability programme management.
