Head of Sustainability

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Sustainability to lead our client’s sustainability strategy, a leading UK-based FMCG brand. This pivotal role focuses on driving initiatives related to Scope 3 emissions reduction, achieving and maintaining B Corp certification, and embedding sustainability into the company’s long-term strategic goals.
The successful candidate will report into their Director of Sustainability and play a critical role in ensuring the brand operates responsibly while meeting ambitious environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives and values.
- Set clear sustainability targets and KPIs, focusing on Scope 3 emissions reduction, supply chain transparency, and net-zero commitments.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration to integrate sustainability into product development, operations, and marketing strategies.
Scope 3 Emissions Management
- Establish robust methodologies for measuring and reporting Scope 3 emissions across the value chain.
- Engage with suppliers and partners to drive emission reduction initiatives and promote sustainable practices.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions to reduce carbon impact across procurement, logistics, and product lifecycle.
B Corp Certification and Compliance
- Drive the process for achieving and maintaining B Corp certification, ensuring all requirements are met.
- Work with internal teams to enhance the company’s performance across B Corp pillars: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.
- Monitor and report progress, making continuous improvements to uphold B Corp standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, industry groups, NGOs, and consumers, to champion sustainability initiatives.
- Represent the company in sustainability forums, contributing to thought leadership and advocating for responsible business practices.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership and the board on sustainability performance and opportunities.
Education and Advocacy
- Foster a culture of sustainability within the organization by educating employees and promoting awareness.
- Collaborate with marketing and communication teams to effectively share sustainability milestones and engage customers in our journey.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Proven experience in a senior sustainability role, preferably within the FMCG sector.
- Strong knowledge of Scope 3 emissions measurement, reduction strategies, and reporting frameworks.
- Track record of leading successful B Corp certification processes.
- Excellent understanding of ESG principles, sustainable supply chain management, and relevant UK and international regulations.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable:
- Experience in implementing circular economy principles or sustainable packaging solutions.
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks such as GHG Protocol, CDP, or TCFD.
- A relevant degree in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field.
