We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Construction Manager with a strong mechanical background to lead the end-to-end mechanical delivery on a large-scale data centre project in Germany. This senior position requires strategic oversight of site operations, subcontractor management, and ensuring compliance with stringent technical and safety standards in a mission-critical environment. You will act as the primary authority for mechanical works, driving excellence in execution and coordination across all trades.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Project Leadership
- Take full ownership of mechanical construction activities, including:
- HVAC systems
- Chilled water systems
- CRAC/CRAH units
- Pipework and plant installation
- Ensure delivery aligns with project specifications, contractual obligations, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate closely with electrical and civil teams to maintain integrated M&E delivery.
- Senior Team Management
- Lead and mentor site supervisors, foremen, and subcontractors.
- Drive resource planning, productivity optimization, and technical problem-solving.
- Act as the escalation point for complex technical and operational issues.
- Governance, Health & Safety
- Champion a culture of safety and compliance across all site activities.
- Conduct high-level audits, inspections, and enforce adherence to HSE regulations.
- Approve and oversee method statements, risk assessments, and permit systems.
- Planning & Reporting
- Develop and manage detailed short-term and long-term programs aligned with the master schedule.
- Monitor progress against KPIs and report directly to senior project leadership.
- Maintain robust documentation and ensure accurate reporting for client and internal stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the project at senior-level coordination meetings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with client representatives, consultants, and contractors.
- Provide clear, concise updates on mechanical works and overall project status.
Requirements
- Experience
- Minimum 5+ years in senior roles on data centre or mission-critical projects.
- Proven track record with M&E contractors in leadership positions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex subcontractor packages.
- Technical Expertise
- Deep knowledge of mechanical systems for data centres:
- Cooling systems, chilled water, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units.
- Familiarity with German building regulations and EU standards (preferred).
- Advanced ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Senior-level safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, VCA) highly advantageous.
