Environment, Health and Safety Manager in Newcastle upon Tyne

An established infrastructure and utilities contractor is seeking an experienced SHEQ Manager to support the delivery of a long-term framework across the North East.

Working closely with senior leadership and operational teams, you will play a key role in driving Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) performance across a diverse portfolio of projects.

We welcome applications from experienced SHEQ, HSEQ, HSQE, QHSE and HSE professionals with backgrounds in utilities, infrastructure, construction, civil engineering, power, energy and related sectors.

The successful candidate will lead SHEQ initiatives, support continuous improvement programmes, and help maintain a positive culture across multiple sites and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead SHEQ performance across a portfolio of infrastructure, utilities and construction projects.
• Provide support and guidance to operational management teams and SHEQ personnel.
• Drive continual improvement across Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality management systems.
• Undertake audits, inspections, investigations and compliance reviews.
• Monitor performance against company procedures, client requirements and industry standards.
• Produce SHEQ reports, trend analysis and performance data for senior management.
• Support risk assessment, contractor management and operational planning activities.
• Promote a proactive and positive SHEQ culture throughout the business.
• Mentor and develop SHEQ Advisors and wider project teams.
• Support compliance with ISO standards and industry best practice.

Requirements

• Chartered SHEQ or Health & Safety professional (CMIOSH preferred).
• Proven experience within Health & Safety, HSE, SHEQ, HSQE, HSEQ or QHSE management roles.
• Previous experience operating within utilities, infrastructure, construction, civil engineering, power, water, energy or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, risk assessment, auditing and compliance management systems.
• Experience supporting multiple sites, projects or operational contracts.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience managing and developing teams.
• Experience within regulated utility, infrastructure or construction environments.
• Previous involvement in long-term framework or maintenance contracts.
• Background working on large-scale civil engineering, infrastructure or utility projects.
• Experience supporting environmental management and quality management initiatives.
