About the role: An ICP client of mine is looking for an electrical-biased Design and Engineering Manager (33kV/132kV). This will involve leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and specialist suppliers to deliver contestable 33kV and 132kV connection designs. Ensure technical compliance, programme certainty and commercially efficient solutions for ICP projects. With a key focus on renewable energy (BESS/solar), this position would ensure the successful candidate is heavily involved in the drive for net-zero in the UK.

Package:

  • Salary - Up to 85k
  • Private healthcare
  • 10% annual bonus
  • 28 days annual leave (+ bank holidays)
  • Location - Liverpool (minimum of 4 days per week in the office)

Selected Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage internal HV/EHV engineers, civil designers, protection, earthing and CAD resources.
  • Coordinate and control external suppliers including protection consultants, civil design houses and OEM engineering partners.
  • Oversee design delivery for 33kV/132kV substations, cable routes, protection schemes, earthing and system studies.
  • Ensure compliance with ENA G81, DNO standards and IDNO adoption requirements.
  • Lead DNO technical discussions, securing approvals and mitigating risk.
  • Drive value engineering, optimise specifications and protect margin.
  • Manage design budgets, supplier scopes and engineering risk.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Delivery of 33kV and 132kV contestable designs within a UK ICP, DNO or IDNO.
  • Strong background managing outsourced engineering partners.
  • Expertise in EHV substations, cable systems, protection and earthing.
