About the role and company: An ICP client of mine is looking for a P&C Design Engineer. This will involve delivering high value protection and control schemes for electricity distribution projects up to 132kV. The company is a long-established, employee-owned independent energy sector consultancy serving the UK and internationally. They support public, private and donor clients to deliver market-leading, cost-effective advisory and design solutions.
Package:
- Salary - Up to 70k
- Location - Essex (hybrid but predominantly office-based)
Selected Key Responsibilities:
- FEED and detailed design workstreams for Protection & Control systems across transmission and renewable energy projects
- Develop and review interface designs, protection schemes, and control philosophies
- Ensure quality assurance and timely delivery of design packages and technical bids
- Undertake site visits and non-intrusive surveys as part of design or site support activities
- Review protection settings, relay coordination, and scheme logic
- Coordinate with back-office engineers, sub-contractors, and suppliers
- Support tendering activities and contribute to technical offers
- Identify and manage technical risks, ensuring compliance with CDM and safety standards
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team capability development
- Maintain strong client relationships and support business development
Key Skills and Experience:
- Electricity Network Regulations / National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) requirements
- DNO and IDNO design standards and approval processes
- ENA Engineering Recommendations
- Grid code for protection settings
- Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) requirements in the electricity industry
- Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
- General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Information Security requirements
It is essential that as a minimum HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or physics. Incorporated Engineer/member of the IET/Chartered Engineer. Experience in design and planning of DNO/IDNO networks.
