We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward–thinking engineering team specialising in building services, MEP and mechanical systems design. This senior position will play a key role in developing technical designs from concept through to construction–ready documentation, supporting multidisciplinary projects across commercial, industrial, and mixed–use sectors.
The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical design expertise, excellent technical judgment, and the ability to lead design activities with minimal supervision. This is an excellent opportunity to influence project outcomes and mentor junior engineers within a dynamic engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the mechanical building services design on projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, coordination, and delivery.
- Produce mechanical design solutions for HVAC, ventilation, chilled water systems, heating systems, hot and cold water distribution, drainage, and associated plant and equipment.
- Prepare detailed calculations, schematic layouts, system diagrams, and technical specifications compliant with relevant codes, standards, and best practice.
- Develop and issue engineering drawings, schedules, and technical reports using industry software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ductwork and pipework sizing tools).
- Coordinate design work with other disciplines including electrical, structural, and architectural teams to ensure fully integrated solutions.
- Support project delivery through client engagement, design reviews, and design risk management.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior design engineers.
- Attend site surveys and inspections as required to support design validation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure quality and consistency of deliverables, meeting project milestones and programme targets.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience in a senior mechanical design role, ideally within building services or MEP engineering.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems design, heat load calculations, and system selection.
- Proficient with design software including AutoCAD and Revit MEP (or similar BIM tools).
- Excellent understanding of UK building regulations, standards, and design codes (e.g., CIBSE, BSRIA, SMACNA).
- Strong analytical, problem–solving, and organisational skills.
- Effective communicator with experience in client and stakeholder collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver high–quality output under pressure.
- Experience mentoring or leading junior team members is highly desirable.
