An established and growing building services contractor is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join its pre‑construction team. This is a key role within the commercial function, responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and commercially viable electrical estimates across a wide range of projects within the commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and residential sectors. You will play a vital part in securing new work, supporting bid submissions, and helping to drive profitability through accurate cost planning and value engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate electrical estimates from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
- Carry out take‑offs and produce comprehensive cost breakdowns using estimating software
- Analyse project requirements to identify risks, opportunities, and scope gaps
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
- Liaise closely with suppliers, design teams, project managers, and commercial staff during tender stages
- Develop competitive tenders while maintaining target margins and commercial awareness
- Contribute to value engineering proposals to improve cost efficiency and buildability
- Support tender submissions, clarifications, and handover to delivery teams
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of material costs, labour rates, and market trends
- Attend site visits and pre/post-tender meetings where required
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within an M&E or building services contractor
- Strong understanding of electrical systems (e.g. containment, lighting, small power, LV distribution, fire alarms)
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications confidently
- Experience producing accurate take‑offs and detailed cost plans
- Strong negotiation and communication skills with suppliers and internal teams
- Commercial awareness with a focus on profitability and risk management
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work to deadlines in a fast‑paced tendering environment
Desirable
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or similar
- Experience working on design & build and/or refurbishment projects
- Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g. BS7671)
- Previous experience within an M&E contractor environment
