Role Overview

The Mechanical Estimator will play a key role in driving commercial success by producing accurate, well‑structured mechanical cost estimates for tender opportunities. You’ll work closely with the pre‑construction team, project managers, engineers and subcontractors to ensure bids are competitive, compliant, and profitable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed mechanical cost estimates for projects varying in scale and complexity, including HVAC, plumbing, heat recovery, ventilation, and associated building services packages.
  • Analyse tender documents, specifications, drawings, and bills of quantities to develop accurate scope breakdowns.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and validate assumptions.
  • Produce comprehensive tender submissions with clear cost breakdowns, risk assessments, and value‑engineering options.
  • Identify and highlight commercial and technical risks and opportunities within a bid.
  • Collaborate closely with estimating, commercial and project delivery teams throughout the bidding process.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of market rates, material costs, labour rates, regulations, and supply chain conditions.
  • Support commercial reporting, bid tracking, and post‑tender review process to continually improve estimating performance.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in mechanical estimating within the building services or M&E contracting sector.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in estimating software and MS Office (especially Excel).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet bid deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Knowledge of UK building services standards and regulations is advantageous.
