Ready to take ownership of environmental delivery from day one on one of the UK’s most significant energy infrastructure projects supporting the Net Zero transition? This is an exceptional opportunity to join a leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor, embedded on a major new energy hub development near Peterhead, North East Scotland, supporting a long-term, high-profile project delivering critical onshore infrastructure. The project is at early works stage, offering genuine influence, visibility and the opportunity to shape environmental performance from site set-up through to full construction and delivery.
The Project
- Based on a single large site near Peterhead, you’ll be the senior environmental lead on a flagship energy development running through to 2030.
- Formation of platforms and heavy civils works during early stages.
- Construction of new substations and converter stations.
- Drainage, earthworks, roadworks and watercourse crossings / realignments.
- Extensive environmental constraints, particularly ecology and surface water management.
- A future construction workforce of up to 1,000 people at peak.
This is a single-site role - no regional hopping - with the security of a long-term project pipeline and the backing of a strong national Power & Energy business.
The Role
As Senior Environmental Manager, you’ll act as the senior environmental authority on site - visible, trusted and embedded within the project leadership team. This is a delivery-focused, hands-on project role, not a corporate or policy-led sustainability position. You’ll balance technical environmental expertise, people leadership and day-to-day problem solving in a fast-moving construction environment. You’ll manage and develop an established on-site team and provide confidence upwards to the client and senior internal stakeholders.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as the senior environmental lead for a complex energy infrastructure project.
- Managing and developing an on-site team of Environmental Advisors, Graduates and Ecologists.
- Ensuring day-to-day environmental compliance across heavy civils, earthworks, drainage and substation construction.
- Leading surface water management, pollution prevention and ecological constraint management.
- Coordinating and overseeing ecologists and other environmental specialists.
- Managing regulator and stakeholder engagement (including SEPA and other statutory bodies).
- Delivering client reporting and feeding into regional leadership reporting on a monthly basis.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong environmental experience within construction or major infrastructure projects.
- Proven capability managing environmental compliance on live sites.
- Experience leading or managing environmental teams (or ready to step up).
- Strong knowledge of surface water, pollution prevention and ecological constraints.
- Confidence operating within senior project teams and client-facing environments.
What’s on Offer
- A competitive basic salary.
- Car allowance or company car and all expenses paid.
- Accommodation paid and subsistence allowance where required.
- Private healthcare - family cover.
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Annual bonus scheme.
- Flexible working arrangements once the project is established.
- Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave and recognition schemes.
Family-friendly policies including enhanced maternity and paternity leave. Relocation package available. Ongoing Training & Development opportunities. Long-term project pipeline and clear progression opportunities.
Why Join?
- Be part of one of the UK’s most important energy and Net Zero infrastructure projects.
- Take ownership of environmental delivery from early works through to full construction.
- Work within a strong, supportive regional and national environmental team.
- High visibility role with real influence on project outcomes.
- Long-term stability combined with future progression across major infrastructure projects.
