Looking to lead health & safety across a complex residential property portfolio, with the autonomy to modernise systems, strengthen assurance and shape best practice at senior level? Sustainable Futures Group (SFG) has exclusively partnered with a well established and mission-driven housing organisation to recruit a Head of Health & Safety. This senior leadership role will take ownership of landlord health & safety and property compliance, covering a diverse mix of general needs housing, high-rise buildings, supported living schemes and care environments. This role is firmly focused on tenant safety, statutory compliance, property and building risk, rather than corporate workplace or construction project safety.

This well-established housing organisation has grown significantly over the past decade and now manages 10,000+ homes, alongside a substantial care and supported housing provision. Employing over a thousand people, the organisation is undergoing a period of modernisation and positive cultural change, with a renewed focus on empowering teams, strengthening governance and improving how risk and compliance are managed across the housing portfolio. About the Role

  • Lead health & safety across the organisation’s residential property portfolio, with a clear focus on landlord compliance, building safety and resident risk.
  • Provide assurance to the executive team and board on key risk areas including fire safety, building safety and the “Big 6”.
  • Act as the organisation’s senior subject matter expert for property-related health & safety and statutory compliance.
  • Lead, recruit and develop a specialist compliance team through a period of change and modernisation.
  • Drive the implementation of a new compliance management system, improving visibility, governance and reporting.
  • Oversee contractor compliance and statutory servicing programmes, ensuring risks are identified and managed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Senior-level experience leading health & safety, property compliance and building safety within a housing, residential property, care or local authority environment.
  • Strong technical understanding of landlord statutory compliance and building-related risk, including fire safety and the “Big 6”.
  • Proven ability to provide assurance at executive and board level, operating confidently under regulatory scrutiny.
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent level qualification); IOSH membership with Chartered status desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, able to translate technical compliance requirements into clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders.
