The Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Solar PV Site Manager to oversee the day-to-day delivery of our commercial and industrial solar installations. You will be based on-site, taking ownership of health and safety, programme, quality, and workforce coordination to ensure projects are installed safely, to specification, and on schedule. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives managing people and progress on a live construction site.
Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Health and Safety
- Take overall responsibility for health, safety, and welfare on site, ensuring full compliance with CDM regulations and site-specific RAMS.
- Conduct daily site briefings, toolbox talks, and safety inspections.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and compliant site at all times, including welfare facilities and access.
- Investigate and report any incidents, near misses, or non-conformances promptly.
Installation Management
- Oversee the day-to-day installation of rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems in line with the design and programme.
- Coordinate labour, plant, and materials to keep the installation progressing efficiently.
- Liaise with the Project Manager on programme, resourcing, and any design or site queries.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with MCS, DNO, and relevant industry standards.
Team Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate installation teams, electricians, and subcontractors on site.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor productivity and workmanship.
- Support the onboarding and induction of new site operatives and subcontractors.
- Provide clear direction, mentoring, and feedback to site staff.
Quality & Compliance
- Carry out regular quality checks and snagging throughout the installation.
- Ensure installations meet client specifications, warranty requirements, and building regulations.
- Support commissioning and handover, including witness testing and client walkthroughs.
- Maintain accurate site records, including photographs, test results, and daily reports.
Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the main point of contact for the client and principal contractor on site.
- Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager and wider project team.
- Manage relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and site neighbours professionally.
- Escalate risks, delays, or site issues promptly to the Project Manager.
Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Site Manager or Site Supervisor within the solar PV or electrical construction industry.
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification.
- CSCS card (Manager or Supervisor level).
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Strong working knowledge of solar PV installation methods, electrical safety, and CDM regulations.
- Proven ability to manage installation teams and subcontractors on live construction sites.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site locations.
Preferred
- Solar PV qualifications
- Electrical qualifications.
- Experience with battery storage or microgrid installations.
- Working knowledge of DNO connection processes and G99/G100 requirements.
