We would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate your commitment to providing high quality care and counselling for depression at Step 3. You will be delivering counselling for depression using a stepped care model in line with the national IAPT programme and latest NICE guidance for psychological interventions. The role involves delivering one-to-one counselling, assessments and therapeutic groups.

Commitment to professional development

You must demonstrate a commitment to Continuing Professional Development and be prepared to attend training in the Person Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CFD) IAPT training at Metanoia with a desirable commitment to Mind Matters of 1.5 years post training completion/award of qualification (not just attending the course).

Developmental Plan

  • Start at band 6
  • Maximum of 24 months to complete PCE-CF/D training
  • Successful completion of PCE-CF/D training will lead to band 7
  • Applicants who have already completed the PCE-CF/D training will start at band 7

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive assessment and therapeutic service for adult patients with common mental health problems referred to the IAPT SABP service based on sound, evidence‑based psychological principles, and working within the context of primary care services. You will be able to assess clients for suitability for counselling and other modalities, and provide specialist psychological treatment based upon clearly accepted, evidence‑based principles (N.I.C.E. guidelines for Depression). To treat common mental health problems, including mood and adjustment disorders and other problems not of a severity requiring multidisciplinary specialist mental health services. Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department's referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary. Assess risk for patient and others and take appropriate action when necessary.

Job responsibilities

You will be required to work two evenings a week or Saturday and offer two days of face‑to‑face clinic based in Redhill or Leatherhead.

Person Specification

  • Completion of BACP Accredited Counselling Qualification Level 4 & above
  • Completion of other counselling qualification with full BACP accreditation / full UKCP registration
  • BACP with full accreditation; UKCP with full registration; NCS fully accredited professional registrants; ACC full accreditation

Experience

  • Minimum 450 client hours with proof of clinical supervision for all hours
  • Experience of working in IAPT, in a service where agreed targets are in place with regards contacts and clinical outcomes
  • Experience of working with diverse communities within a multicultural setting
