We are looking to recruit a qualified SCPHN School Nurse to join our friendly West Sussex School Nurse team. The post holder will work within a skill mixed team to promote the health and wellbeing of children, families, and communities. The post holder will provide specialist practitioner knowledge and advice, assessing health needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based care and public health interventions in a variety of settings, including homes, schools, workplaces, and community environments to improve outcomes for children and their families. The role involves close collaboration with multi‑agency partners to address health inequalities and support safeguarding responsibilities.

Main duties of the job:

  • Work with the team to plan and deliver a commissioned healthy child programme 0-19.
  • Identify health needs by undertaking an assessment in partnership with clients, to deliver an individual programme of care, delegating support as appropriate.
  • Keep accurate, legible, contemporaneous records and written reports as required.

Job responsibilities:

  • Work in a community‑based setting communicating with all members of the Multidisciplinary Care Team, voluntary and statutory organisations, clients, members of the public, and a range of other professional colleagues.
  • Ensure effective liaison and communication with other professional groups within the Trust and outside agencies, working in partnership in the interests of clients.
  • Build trusting relationships with children, carers and families, to positively influence their future health outcomes.
  • Advocate for fairness, equity and social justice and challenge discriminatory practices and behaviours.
  • Produce and present accurate objective reports at child protection conferences.

  • SCPHN School Nurse, NMC registered
  • Studying for SCPHN School Nurse
  • Safeguarding
  • Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding agenda
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working

  • Evidence of leadership through supporting students/new staff

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and, as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 a year per annum / pro rata

Contract: Permanent
